Where: SHRM Conference Sevierville, TN, USA

How: I picked it up from John Petz after he spoke at the SHRM Conference.

Story: I am the one that picked up this card after hearing John's story of the 7 of Hearts during a Human Resources Conference. I know he moved a lot of people that day, and that wasn't many dry eyes in the convention center. I especially gravitated to his story because my nephew passed away just before his third birthday battling cancer, and now my daughter has fought photosensitive epilepsy since she was 18 months old. During both these struggles I have just looked into the pity, and what they can't do or couldn't do for that matter. I was sitting in the crowd and it was like it hit me like a ton of bricks. In Billy's (my nephew) short life and my daughter's struggles every day they still live in the moment. Why can't we be like kids and enjoy everything around us. Something so small can be significant in their eyes. I have been going through the motions for so long; I truly thought I was doing something special because hey at the end of the week I had my to-do list all crossed off. Coming out of yet another work conference, I would usually go back to the regular beat of things. As I sit at my computer today, I sit at all the things I can change to make a "simple moment significant." This morning my daughter had yet another sleep EEG, where we have to sleep deprive her the night before. I decided we were not going to dread this night fighting with a six year old to stay awake, but instead we had an old school slumber party in my office. We had a blast, and then went and ate early morning breakfast and sang every song that we could think of. We told jokes and stories, and just truly enjoyed spending time together. Unfortunately we do not do this often because our schedules are always so hectic. I hope it means as much to her as it did to me spending this time, that is usually dreaded, together in a memorable way. I am now looking for that person to hand this card to that makes a difference.

Where: Sevierville, TN

How: TN SHRM Conference

Story: I had the pleasure of hearing Mr. Petz speak and do magic st the TN SHRM Conference. It is a reminder to get out of the rut of living "just" day by day "working for dollar". Each day is precious despite what craziness may be going on. It's okay to laugh, smile, enjoy the day. Make significant moments!!
