Back in 2015 my wife and I found out we were pregnant with our second child. 8 weeks into the pregnancy we found out by accident that it was possible our baby could have Down syndrome due to various markers found during an ultrasound. It made for an exhausting, roller coaster pregnancy as we had no idea what the future held. Our 2nd son, James, was born healthy and beautiful just as we had hoped. He just happened to have Down syndrome. In general, raising kids is hard. How things would be different this time with James? We just didn’t know. To make sure we gave James all that he needed my wife decided to stay home full time. She put her career on hold and quit her job as a successful speech pathologist. For the past 5 years she has led James through countless doctor appointments, therapies, tutoring sessions, and now preschool. Always looking for ways to advocate for James and people like him. She also taught herself sign language in order for us to be able to communicate with James before he could talk. She then volunteered her time to share this skill with families like ours. And by the way, she had our 3rd child and is the rock of our family. She is absolutely crushing it! We are so grateful. She fills our hearts. We love you! Thank you for making a difference every day.
