I live in Sunbury, Ohio and currently most of our mom and pop scrapbook places have closed down. We have the big stores, Joann and Hobby Lobby, but they don’t hold crops or crafting events. I attend Sunbury Christian Church and the facility is bright, spacious and welcoming. (Great light and a huge space to craft. A crafters best place) since, there is no place locally place to craft, I thought that I would do an outreach to the communities. I hosted a Women’s Crafting Event, you don’t have to scrapbook, you bring your craft project you are working on….it could be painting, jewelry, card making or even diamond art. We “rented” tables $10 and the proceeds benefited Bountiful Backpacks food pantry. Bountiful Backpacks is an outreach program that provides Big Walnut students, grades K-8 and their families with backpacks filled with non-perishable food to eat over the weekend. We provide them with enough food to feed them breakfast, lunch and a snack for both Saturday and Sunday to replace what they would get at school though the week. Last year, the Sunbury Christian Church fed 13 families at Harrison Street Elementary. The program has grown to 5 local churches supporting all Big Walnut students in grades K-8.
Our first event was in January and goal for January was to have five people attend. I had twenty-eight people. Everyone had a great time and asked when the next event is? Before I left the church, I had February and March penciled in the books.
