#11858 Melody

This month, I am choosing to give the 7 of Hearts to Melody. Melody is celebrating her 10th(?) year here at Aptiv. She has been a consistent and supportive staff who is flexible when we need to change her schedule and willing to work with anyone that we need in that moment. She asks good questions when she doesn’t know something, and she also takes feedback well and tries to grow and learn from it. Her dedication and support to our participants is evident because she is usually one of the first people here every morning, even if she isn’t scheduled until 8. I have never seen Melody in a bad mood or even frustrated, and she is always speaking so kindly about all participants and staff and laughing at the goofiness of daily life here. Thank you, Melody, for your time and energy you have put into Aptiv and Day Services, and thank you for the overall presence that you bring!

  • How?Bought Jon’s book “Significance” / to my wife

#78551 Ryan

Back in 2015 my wife and I found out we were pregnant with our second child. 8 weeks into the pregnancy we found out by accident that it was possible our baby could have Down syndrome due to various markers found during an ultrasound. It made for an exhausting, roller coaster pregnancy as we had no idea what the future held. Our 2nd son, James, was born healthy and beautiful just as we had hoped. He just happened to have Down syndrome. In general, raising kids is hard. How things would be different this time with James? We just didn’t know. To make sure we gave James all that he needed my wife decided to stay home full time. She put her career on hold and quit her job as a successful speech pathologist. For the past 5 years she has led James through countless doctor appointments, therapies, tutoring sessions, and now preschool. Always looking for ways to advocate for James and people like him. She also taught herself sign language in order for us to be able to communicate with James before he could talk. She then volunteered her time to share this skill with families like ours. And by the way, she had our 3rd child and is the rock of our family. She is absolutely crushing it! We are so grateful. She fills our hearts. We love you! Thank you for making a difference every day.

We were at a leadership conference for 3 days. We were placed in the same small groups to practice facilitative leadership and gain a new skillset. It is interesting because we have worked together for almost two years indirectly, but this was the first time we spent consistent time together outside of those roles. I did my presentation (nervous, but a good job) and the feedback I received from Julie really made a difference. Thank you for your kind, but sincere words. they made a imprint on me.

One of my colleagues had brought the story up to our leadership meeting about the cards and presentation. It was fascinating and heart warming, My boss then decided to surprise the leadership with these cards as a holiday thank you gift. It was a nice gesture, that we now can pay it forward with.

I have met many clients in the service/ construction industry. There are some great ones and some like anything well I keep it as it’s business. We are a vendor partners with Rise and perform hvac/plumbing services and construction at some of there facilities. These are absolutely the best I have ever seen. There culture bleeds through them. From the ceo to the property maintenance manger you can see they are enjoying it and that’s the key to being successful. Your people have to believe the vision and where the company is going. I am off my soap box. They had great speakers and I took this away to make a difference. It was one of my 2020 goals it to lead by example and do something different that is simple and can make a huge impact. I took this one away from that conference to let folks know they are appreciated. Sometimes people need a lifter upper to make there day. Thanks rise for your partnership and letting us meet Jon. He definitely made an impact on all Of us.

Jon Petz was a keynote speaker for our 2020 RISE Leadership Conference. The conference was themed after one of our RISE attributes SIMPLIFY. Jon was chosen to help us realize the simple moments we have everyday to make a moment special for someone. He shared the story of Nathan and the 7 of Hearts with us. This happened to be the day after I attended the funeral of my cousin who lived with muscular dystrophy and was also named Nathan. The story hit very close to home and became a very strong moment for me.

I live in Sunbury, Ohio and currently most of our mom and pop scrapbook places have closed down. We have the big stores, Joann and Hobby Lobby, but they don’t hold crops or crafting events. I attend Sunbury Christian Church and the facility is bright, spacious and welcoming. (Great light and a huge space to craft. A crafters best place) since, there is no place locally place to craft, I thought that I would do an outreach to the communities. I hosted a Women’s Crafting Event, you don’t have to scrapbook, you bring your craft project you are working on….it could be painting, jewelry, card making or even diamond art. We “rented” tables $10 and the proceeds benefited Bountiful Backpacks food pantry. Bountiful Backpacks is an outreach program that provides Big Walnut students, grades K-8 and their families with backpacks filled with non-perishable food to eat over the weekend. We provide them with enough food to feed them breakfast, lunch and a snack for both Saturday and Sunday to replace what they would get at school though the week. Last year, the Sunbury Christian Church fed 13 families at Harrison Street Elementary. The program has grown to 5 local churches supporting all Big Walnut students in grades K-8. Our first event was in January and goal for January was to have five people attend. I had twenty-eight people. Everyone had a great time and asked when the next event is? Before I left the church, I had February and March penciled in the books.

For the flight attendant. Thank you so much for being kind, I’m about to take part in a long business trip and I’m missing my little girls and wife like crazy. Your kindness was extremely sweet. Life is full of ups and downs, today was a middle of the road day, because of you the day turned into an up. Thank you!
