I am giving this 7 of hearts to Rodney to start a monthly employee recognition tradition where we work. Rodney is deserving of this card as he embodies what the card and the 7 of hearts story represents. Rodney goes out of his way to ensure that all co-workers and participants he works with feel supported. He finds ways to make work fun by using nick names and catch phrases for the tasks that he does every day. Rodney finds time to engage everyone around him and treats everyone with dignity and respect. Rodney keeps a level head at all times even when things get challenging or have to change. He thinks outside of the box to find solutions to problems and is a wonderful team player. It is for these reasons and more that Rodney is our first recipient of the 7 of hearts.
I received my card from Jon Petz during a corporate training day session. The message Jon conveys in his message is simple: everyone has a purpose and a gift, and it is our job to give those away. That training day our company took about 2 hours of our work day, and built bikes for local kids who could not afford one. After we had built the bikes we were able to give those to the children. To see the look on their faces when they saw their very first bike is something I will never forget, and all it took was just two hours of our time.
Dan has been such an important person in my job. He’s the one who trained me when I first started, and is the one person I’d go to if I have any questions about anything. Dan is someone that I can truly trust, and is willing to help out with whatever may be needed to help everyone. A great person and someone that I’ll truly never forget and am thankful for!
I heard Jon, a keynote speaker on a travel advisor event on board the Eurodam. He challenged us to be part of his 7 of Hearts project… passing on the card to someone who, by an act of kindness, makes a difference.

Dr. Frederickson is a very special person. She is my oncologist. I met her a year ago last April when I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She is a gentle person who really cares for her patients. She is gives her personal cell phone number and stresses that she wants me to call her no matter what time. She wants to know what is happening. It turns out I did have to call her on a Friday night and she was there for me. Dr. Frederickson is an incredible person and I am blessed by her caring so much.
We received books during a training session with our company. I’ll be sure to pass my card along to someone who made a difference, no matter how big or small 🙂
I received this card at a staff meeting for Guest service employees at Longwood Gardens on Oct 7, 2019. Jon Petz was the guest virtual seminar speaker.
Nathan’s story was truly inspirational.
Thank you Jon and Longwood. You’ve made an everlasting impression on my heart.
I usually feel like I’m JUST another employee here at Longwood Gardens in the café. Even after receiving two well deserved promotions and employee of the month. I grew up with anxiety and depression so it’s natural for me to feel like JUST another person here on the planet. But after listening to Jon’s story, I felt like I matter. This book has opened up my eyes and helped me understand that these little interactions I have with guests at work everyday matter. I have the power to change them for a split second. And this doesn’t just apply to work. Everyday there are people who put a smile on my face or change how I feel. It’s the simple things that I now recognize. And I promise to pay it forward and hand out my 7 of hearts and keep the story going. Thank you Jon.
